Ice cream trails in the Mid-Atlantic

SHARE

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! We thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the best ice cream spots around the Mid-Atlantic. From Maryland to South Carolina, we know that one of these tasty locations will be sure to please you and your whole family.

Maryland

Maryland has ten dairy farms that offer fresh-from-the-farm ice cream. Together, they make up Maryland’s Best Ice Cream Trail. Stretching from the mountains to the Eastern Shore, each dairy farm offers a unique blend of flavors. In fact, you can download a full road map of Maryland’s Ice Cream Trail on the Maryland Department of Agriculture website. Start your tour at Chesapeake Bay Farms in Worchester County and enjoy a pint of their amazing Blueberry Crunch made with vanilla shortcake pieces blended into a rich blueberry ice cream. Then head up to Frederick County where you will find South Mountain Creamery and Rocky Point Creamery. Both offer an amazing selection of ice cream flavors and sundaes.

Virginia

Virginia is home to amazing dairy farms and ice cream parlors that are conveniently located in some of the most historically rich areas of the state. The Dairy Godmother in Alexandria offers unique treats like a butter pecan custard sandwich. Head down I-95 to Carl’s in Fredericksburg which has been serving old-fashioned, frozen custard since 1947!  Looking for something unique?  Kline’s Dairy Bar in Harrisonburg is the home of specialty flavors. Their ice cream and frozen custard flavors range from lemon gingersnap to cake batter. For a full list of ice cream options near you in Virginia, check out this blog post on the Ice Cream Trail through Virginia.

North Carolina

North Carolina has so much to offer from beautiful beaches to incredible cities. That being said, we’re a little biased since Raleigh is one of our hometowns. Raleigh offers some of the most unique ice cream selections in the country. Sunni Sky’s Homemade Ice Cream infuses peppers and chilis in several of their flavors making them among the spiciest ice creams in the world. If you are looking for something truly ‘North Carolinian’ then check out Two Roosters Ice Cream. This farm-to-table creamery uses locally sourced ingredients that make for interesting flavor combinations such as Peach and Blue Corn Cookie and Blackberry Hibiscus.  Want something more traditional yet decadent, be sure to check out Andia’s Homemade Ice Cream in Cary. Their selection of premium ice creams is sure to hit the (sweet) spot.

South Carolina

South Carolina is known for more than Palmettos. From premium ice cream to rich custards, there are amazing places across the state to satisfy your sweet tooth. Luna Rosa Gelato Café in Greenville offers some of the most authentic gelato you can find outside of Italy with mouth-watering blends such as electric lemonade and pink grapefruit. Head over to Columbia to find Sweet Cream Company and their signature ice cream cookie creations. For Clemson fans, there is ’55 Exchange which is run by Clemson University students. All profits from this unique ice cream parlor go to support Clemson students and their academic and professional training.

At HHHunt, we believe it’s how you live that matters, and this summer is perfect to head out on a road trip. While you are exploring, we hope that you will stop by some of these amazing ice cream destinations.
