Welcome to Suffolk, Virginia! Home to the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, Suffolk provides nature lovers and eco-tourists with an amazing opportunity to explore one of the most important wildlife habitats in the mid-Atlantic region. At near 113,000 acres, the refuge is the largest intact remnant of a vast swamp that once covered more than one million acres. The Great Dismal Swamp is home to 47 species of mammals, 200 birds, 96 species of butterflies, and much more. The refuge also offers 40 miles of trails including something for every age and ability. Looking for a faster pace? Biking enthusiasts will love the SCCT and Seaboard West trails which will offer connectivity between Suffolk and other Hampton Roads biking trails.

Art & Culture

The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts offers a 530-seat theater which is the stage for concerts, ballets, musicals, dramatic works, symphony performances, films, children’s plays, lectures and so much more. The center also includes two art galleries that offer rotating exhibits of painting, photography, and sculpture exhibitions. The nearby Suffolk Art Gallery is an eclectic, exciting venue for thought-provoking artwork. It is home to the oldest and largest juried photography exhibition in Hampton Roads and hosts many regional and local artists in a mix of invitational and juried exhibits. The Gallery is home to the Suffolk Art League which promotes creative arts to the community.

World-Class, Boutique Shopping

Downtown Suffolk is home to nearly 40 boutique shopping and dining destinations ranging from custom baby clothes to farmer’s markets. Historic Downtown Suffolk offers a little something for everyone and has become a sought-after destination in the Hampton Roads region. Whether you are in the mood for a beer at Nansemond Brewing Station or finding the perfect bottle of wine at Great Bottles, the selection of shopping and restaurants in Suffolk offers something for everyone.

Easy Access to All of Hampton Roads

All of Hampton Roads is at your fingertips when you live in Suffolk, Virginia. Enjoy easy access to highway 58 with proximity to downtown Suffolk, Newport News, Norfolk, and Chesapeake. Residents of Suffolk can quickly access major area employers including Amazon, Newport News Shipbuilding, the Port of Virginia, and Sentara Health System, as well as military bases including Langley Air Force Base, Fort Eustis Army Base, Fort Monroe Army Base and NAB Little Creek Navy Base.
